Strategy in 3 days on doubling exports by '14


The government will come out with a strategy in next few days to double the country's export to $450 billion by 2014. Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said that within next three days, the government will come out with the "final strategy" for doubling the export in next three years.

Sharma made this announcement yesterday in Jodhpur, where he laid foundation stone of the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), an official statement said here. The commerce ministry had sought comments from stakeholders on its strategy paper, which came out in February, for doubling exports to USD 450 billion by 2013-14 . The draft paper calls for setting up a technology upgrading fund, financial support to various sectors and special focus on new markets, besides clearing infrastructure bottlenecks.

India's exports registered the highest ever growth of 37.5 per cent at $245.9 billion during 2010-11 . The minister also announced that Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar will be the second node of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) in Rajasthan . The DMIC project planned in 2006 comprising six states -- Uttar Pradesh , Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat , Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh -- is being developed in collaboration with Japan as a manufacturing and trading hub. After his meeting with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and state Industry Minister Rajinder Pareek, Sharma said that the first node in the state -- Khushkhera-Bhiwadi- Neemrana -- is witnessing a steady progress. The statement said that FDDI, which will be constructed by the central government with an investment of . 97 crore, will be a modern art institute equipped with latest facilities and world standard faculty.
