Turkey’s scrap imports fall in H1 y-o-y

According to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), Turkey imported around 12.5 million tons of scrap in the first half of this year, falling by 2.8% compared to the same period a year ago. The import value during the period was approximately US$6.4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 19%. Among them, the top three import sources were the EU (around 6.36 million tons, a year-on-year drop of 10.6%), the US (around 2.23 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 25.8%), and the UK (around 1.14 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 18.8%. In June alone, Turkey’s scrap imports totaled roughly 1.6 million tons, sliding by 28.5% compared to the previous month and also falling by 22% from the same month a year earlier.
