Brazil’s scrap exports & imports rise in Sep m-o-m

According to statistics from the Brazil Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), Brazil’s scrap exports totaled around 73,500 tons this September, rising by 56.4% compared to the previous month while dropping by 24.5% from the same month a year ago. In the first nine months of this year, Brazil’s scrap exports amounted to approximately 346,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 44.3%. Among them, the exports to Bangladesh accounted for the largest proportion at 36% of the total, followed by India’s 25% and Pakistan’s 13%. In terms of imports, Brazil’s scrap imports in September had a month-on-month increase of 43.3% and a year-on-year decrease of 4.4% to roughly 3,100 tons. In the January-September period, Brazil’s scrap imports amounted to around 206,400 tons, soaring by 292.1% year on year. Among them, the US was the main supplier with a share of 38%, Canada ranked second with 34%, followed by Spain’s share of 7.3%.
