Ukraine daily pig iron output increases by 18pct YoY in Q1

According to the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, during the Q1 2010 the Ukrainian steelmakers have continued to increase their average daily pig iron output by 18%YoY to 77,500 tonnes compared to 65,700 tonnes in the same period last year.

In March 2010, Ukraine average daily pig iron output rose by 8,000 tonnes MoM to 82,400 tonnes. Meanwhile, average daily pig iron output in the period between April 1st and 12th amounted to 80,700 tonnes.

According to the Metallurgprom data, as of April 13th, 10 of Ukraine 41 blast furnaces continue to stand idle. In addition, two of the country 21 converters, 17 of its 35 open hearth furnaces and 10 of its 15 electric furnaces also continue to stand idle.
