Supreme Court allows iron ore exports temporarily

Karnataka government had bans on export of iron ore from 10 ports and stopped its transport to other ports since July 2010 to cite an action against illegal mining and ensure the sufficient raw material for local steelmakers. The ban was challenged in Karnataka’s High Court by the exporters and mining companies, wherein they lost the case and were further petitioned in the Supreme Court in November and now it is reported that Indian Supreme Court has temporarily allowed the iron ore mining companies to export from April 20th 2011.

An interim rule has been released by the government of Karnataka for the relief for iron ore exports; moreover, it’s expected that the country’s iron ore exports would emerge after April 20th 2011 once the shipments are resumed.
