Tata Steel purchase scrap for new recycling plants
Date: 31/07/2020

Tata Steel has acquired the first set of iron-containing scraps for processing from its new steel recycling plants in Rohtak, Haryana. These scraps were purchased from various markets, including automobile scrap, home appliance scrap, construction demolition waste, and industrial waste. The company processed the waste mechanically and then supplied the treated high-quality scrap to electric arc furnaces and induction furnaces for steelmaking. The plant, with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons, will soon begin trial production. Aarti Steels' subsidiary Aarti Green Tech is its partner, which is the first mill in India to have modern waste disposal equipment. Tata Steel said in a statement that the program aimed to provide continued raw materials for the steel industry by providing high-quality processed scrap steel, simplifying the current disorganized scrap supply chain, reducing dependence on imports, and providing transparency and efficiency throughout the value chain.
