Ashok Leyland delivers first set of BSVI trucks
Date: 21-01-2020 00:00:00

HindujaNSE 3.06 % Group Company Ashok LeylandNSE 0.95 % delivered its first Bharat Stage VI-compliant commercial vehicles for customers in the Delhi-NCR region, marking its readiness for the new emissions norms kicking in from April. Ashok Leyland had recently unveiled a new modular platform for vehicle development at its product development centre near Chennai, a move it believes will set it apart in capitalising new demand for the vehicles. Anuj Kathuria, Chief Operating Officer, Ashok Leyland, said “Our new BS VI iGen6 technology developed in-house is suited for Indian operating conditions. In addition, we are also introducing our new range of modular trucks that will deliver superior customized solutions to customers.” The BSVI vehicles need commensurate fuel, which has already been brought in circulation in centres such as Delhi and Chennai. Kathuria said he foresaw no challenge in fuel availability for the company’s BSVI products. The price increase from the current BSIV to the new emission stage will be higher compared to the jump seen after BSIV norms were introduced, said Kathuria. The new ICV vehicles delivered to customers in Delhi are built out of the new platform. The truck maker will have a slew of launches through 2020 as it seeks to pull out of the low demand scenario currently prevailing in the market.
